New DevOps Community Enables Continuous Delivery Practitioners

According to the Puppet Labs’ 2015 State of DevOps Report high-performing IT organizations deploy 30 times more frequently with 200 times shorter lead times; they have 60 times fewer failures and recover 168 times faster. While staggering, those numbers should also lend credence to the fact that DevOps, however you spell it, is working. Consider that five years ago, there were no DevOps jobs, at least not in title. Today on job sites like LinkedIn, I’m seeing job titles like DevOps Automation Engineer, DevOps Testing Group Manager, or simply Head of DevOps.

In my last blog post, I ended by saying I would be growing our developer marketing programs. Today, I’m excited to announce the first of those programs, our new DevOps community site, devops.sumologic.com. The site is content rich and features blog posts, in-depth articles, video logs and other educational content written by practitioners from the DevOps community. Kicking things off, DevOps Analyst Chris Riley looks at how devops-containerization strips the virtual environment down to its essentials and probes what that means for the pipeline. Greg Sypolt, senior engineer at Gannett and co-founder of Quality Element, shares devops-test-automation best practices that can help simplify much of your testing effort with a minimum set of scripts. And Zachary Flower, a DevOps practitioner and web developer, talks about development environments like Vagrant, a cross-platform tool with built-in Puppet and Chef support that lets you configure and provision virtual machines in a reproducible way.

Devops.sumologic.com will feature new content weekly in the areas of Culture, Process and Tools. And as part of the community, we’re inviting you to share your war stories and expertise with like-minded DevOps professionals.
