Building the case for Sumo Logic in the German market

Spotlight Oliver Gompf

Sumo Spotlight highlights Sumo Logic employees from around the globe. This spotlight features employee Oliver Gompf, a sales director based in Germany.

Describe your role at Sumo Logic
I lead the enterprise and midmarket sales teams in the Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) region. Prior to Sumo Logic, I came from FireEye/Mandiant and Forcepoint holding similar roles.

What do you like most about your job and/or team?

One of the things I like most about my job is that the dynamic in sales is exciting, which keeps the day-to-day interesting. As part of my role, I love to support and coach my team based on my 20+ years of experience in the IT industry. It makes me happy to see others achieve their goals and progress in their careers.

“Sumo Logic perfectly addresses the needs of German companies that are looking to be data-driven organizations.”

Can you share more about the dynamics in the German market?

Germany's economy is based on the Mittelstand. We’ve got a lot of mid-sized companies that are all facing the same challenges. Primarily, a lack of knowledge and resources to defend against cyber attackers, coupled with a push to move to the cloud ASAP because they need to become data-driven to prepare for the future and build a new digital experience for their partners and customers.

Why is Sumo positioned to win?

Sumo Logic perfectly addresses the needs of German companies that are looking to be data-driven organizations. We deliver a SaaS analytics platform that collects, enriches, and analyzes data in a unique way, helping accelerate their digital transformation initiatives and deliver reliable and secure cloud-native applications to their end users.

What has your experience been with our company culture?

I’m very impressed by the commitment of everyone and the clear vision of this company. I think we have a great leadership team in place on a global level, as well as in EMEA. I feel that everyone wants to be successful and is willing to support each other.

What parts of our mission and/or values do you connect with?

The fact that we are built in the cloud for the cloud is a game changer. I see the German market is more open to that than ever before. Helping customers overcome their challenges in keeping their company secure, solving knowledge and resource gaps, and increasing effectiveness are satisfying and gives me the confidence I’m in the right place.

What have been your biggest/proudest accomplishments while at Sumo Logic?

I’m most proud of the DACH team crushing their numbers in the first two quarters this year. We’ve got a team that is brilliant in the basics and building value for our customers in the region.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Sumo?

The company's trust in me and my style to manage and grow our regional team is fantastic. I’ve really got the freedom to build and run an A-player team, and while it will take time, we’re making great strides.

Share one thing that your co-workers don’t know about you

Mountain biking (Trail, Enduro & Freeride) is a passion that I’ve practiced for the past 30 years.
